Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated in the project MIA MIA (2018) as did Madonna and Maluma on Medellin, Madonna and Maluma collaborated on Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. Certain reggaeton performers were unhappy about the trend toward mainstream music in 2020. A new band, Rauw alejandro, was determined to alter the direction of music. The genre often incorporated elements of various genres, as well as electronic dance.
